I admire this music video for the originality of using the sign language to the rhythm of the music. As the pace increases and the chorus begins, I like how other aspects are introduced to the video ie. the dancers and various objects. I also admire the fact that though it is Ed's song, unconventionally he does not fully appear in the video until the end of the video, which I believe seems modest and quite a sophisticated way to finish the video. Throughout the background changes between white and black, the lighting differs also from high exposure to very low which works well with the greyscale style and creates an exciting/original tone to the video. The close up's of the original character are also especially powerful.
Clean Bandit A & E
In this video introduction, I like the way in which the body paint is applied in slow motion with the slow violin music and how when the vocals begin, the two characters begin dancing. The animated snake throughout London which is cut to in a variation of places throughout the video also is unique and adds an aspect of individuality to the video. However my favourite part of the video is when it captures London at night, a conventional red bus drives past tall lit up sky-scrapers and then it cuts to the shot of a water drop hitting some water. The completely different and random scenarios reiterate the uniqueness of the video, and keep it interesting. Throughout they use classic London locations which help them seem like quite a gritty yet well-established band.
Daughter - Youth
The editing in this video is my favourite part, the flicker of colour and light throughout adds a soft, reminiscent tone to it. It is often cut with the music, so every new cord brings a cut to a new scene. The characters in this video are not stereotypical (to gender especially). The very quickly cut edit creates a fast pace and an interesting yet vintage-looking video. Sometimes shots are out of focus and over-exposed which creates the impression that the characters (or band) created their own video which seems artistic and unpretentious. I also love that there is just the couple in the video and the narrative follows them.
Holly - label this post as music video research.
