Narrative of Foal's music video

The video narrative begins with a guy walking to a gig, past a group of girls, the music is vaguely heard outside, he is refused entry. (The entire video is based on a linear narrative, events happen in order). The band are then shown performing to an audience who are slightly in slow motion. Once again the music transfers to being background music to those in the toilets otherwise occupied, when the chorus is delivered the band are shown once again as the focus.
There are many shots of the happy audience. Then the three dancing women are introduced outside the gig, then they dance in the middle of the gig. The visuals become more blurred and colour-edited. The band then exit and it is cut to the three girls dancing in the street to the song being played from an i-pod with the guy who couldn't get in watching. Though the narrative is linear, different aspects are constantly introduced eg. the activity in the gig's tiolets and the girl's outside - I like the fact that the footage of the band playing isn't the only aspect of narrative in the video. There is an enigma behind whether there was even actually a gig or not and who the girls/man were.

  1. I hadn't seen these before. Label as music video research. Good thoughts on narrative in which the performance converges with the storyling of the guy who can't get in - and does it neatly. Good detail of shots and editing.
