Magazine Advertisement

I explored two ideas behind my magazine advertisement. Firstly, one was a boat dock tinted in blue and purple colouring with a dark sky. Initially I deemed this as appropriate due to the mix of dark connotations due to the sky - an unwelcome, overpowering sadness which is also presented in the music video. Then also the water presented throughout the digipack which connotes calmness and serenity, which I felt would appeal to an audience through a magazine.

However as I developed this idea I came to the realisation that a magazine advert would call for a more commercial stance since the boat dock as a film image was beautiful but not in a grasping, strong way. Therefore I explored on Photoshop with the image I used for the front cover of my digipack. By repeating the image three times, it exaggerates the initial effect of the photo - confusion, distortion and at the same time tranquillity. By reflecting the images against each other it also creates an almost overwhelming, all-consuming impression to the audience which would make a more eye-grabbing appealing advertisement.

The text is also the same font as on the digipack only larger in size and central, therefore more noticeable. Therefore the audience would notice the advertisement and place the connotations of the images with the band name successfully.
